During our stay in San Diego for the SBL congress, I shared a room with one of nature's rarest and most undomesticated creatures, The West. Of course, this was a chance to learn something about this most elusive, territorial and mindlessly aggressive of animals. It was still a pity things got so ugly at the end.

I am New Testament Tutor for St Mellitus College and St Paul's Theological Centre, London. In my postgraduate research (under the supervision of Max Turner) I’m working on a thesis that concerns the christological significance of the language Paul used to describe the relationship between risen Lord and believer. I was disappointed that I was not able to spot The West for myself while in San Diego. Very elusive, that one.

Irony has descended in so many forms with this post. Not least in the fact tha a day or so before SBL, West himself said there was nothing significant on YouTube. Was he being prophetic (in the prediction sense)? Makes one wonder!
